May 23 - On this day in 1982, the film Pink Floyd - The Wall was shown out of competition at the Cannes film festival. Some of Pink Floyd’s sound equipment had been brought from their Britannia Row studios into the Palais theater to play the film at concert volume. The Palais was old and run down (Pink Floyd - The Wall was one of the last films to be shown there) and the sound was so loud it caused paint to peel off the walls.
